HAVE A PROFESSIONAL INSTALL YOUR HVAC SYSTEM INSTEAD OF USING DIY VIDEOS
Aerial photo of Airquip trucks and technicians lined up.Here are a few reasons it's better to have a professional handle HVAC installation and service than doing it yourself.  How many "Do It Yourself" (DIY) videos do you come across on the internet today? A few? Hundreds? Thousands?!

It feels like there is a DIY video for everything these days, and they make life a lot simpler. You can learn how easy some tasks are and do it yourself without having to waste a lot of time or spend a lot of money. You can find videos on everything from how to change a setting on your phone to how to chop down a tree, and so much more.

There are also a lot of videos and instructions on how to take care of your HVAC equipment. These videos can be awesome and very informative. They can also be confusing if you aren't used to working with this type of equipment. Smaller stuff like cleaning around your system, and changing a filter are often very helpful, and are things you can safely do yourself. But, as the job becomes more involved, it becomes harder, and even more dangerous, if you aren't a well trained and experienced professional. When it comes to full service or installation of your heating and air conditioning systems, it's best to leave it to the pros.

Safety

The main reason it's important to have a professional handle this in-depth work on your HVAC equipment is safety. Heating and air conditioning equipment both use energy to run. The air conditioning system uses electricity, and the heating system most likely uses oil, gas, or electricity as well. In both cases, if the equipment is not properly installed it can lead to a very dangerous situation.

In the case of the air conditioning, electricity is the main cause for concern. If the electrical wiring isn't done properly, it could become a fire hazard. Electrical issues are one of the most common causes of  house fires.

As for heating, there can be different issues. Obviously, wiring for this equipment is important too, but an even more grave cause for concern is carbon monoxide emissions. When you burn heating fuels like gas or oil, carbon monoxide is produced as a result. The system is designed to then expel these deadly emissions from your home. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that is EXTREMELY poisonous. Making a mistake with your heating system can allow this gas to leak into your home, making it a gravely dangerous situation.

When you hire a professional to install these systems, you will be able to have peace of mind knowing your system, family, and home are going to be safe.

Choosing The Right System

If you don't have a professional installing your system, you likely don't have a recommendation from a professional HVAC company either. Making sure you have the right system is crucial to getting the most out of it. From system efficiency and energy costs to the overall life of the system, ensuring you have the right system for your home is crucial. Getting the right system depends on the size of your home, the layout, and what you are looking for when it comes to home comfort. If you choose a system that is too big or small you will run into problems.

Rolling a new HVAC unit into a home.

If your system is too big, it will run hard, then shut off, and repeat this cycle. This leads to up and down temperatures throughout your home, as well as increased energy bills. If the system keeps turning off and on to do the job, that takes more energy than running at a low and efficient pace. This is going to put more wear and tear on your system too. Your home will be less comfortable, your system will run less efficiently (costing you more in energy bills), and your system lifespan will decrease.

If your system is too small, it will have to run at max capacity, and probably not keep the whole home comfortable. This has almost exactly the same problems as having a system that is too big. It's expensive to run, it will not keep your home comfortable, and it will cause your system to die before it should.

When it comes to choosing your system, having a professional opinion makes a world of difference. With such a long-term home improvement investment, it makes sense that you would want to be absolutely sure you are choosing the right one. Having a professional opinion could be the difference in thousands of dollars and years of comfort.

Properly Functioning

If you were to build a car by yourself, would you feel ok turning the key and driving it on the streets? If you've never installed an HVAC system before, this can be a very similar concept. Instead of rolling the dice and doing it yourself, having a well trained and experienced professional do it will ensure that your system is properly functioning. Would you really want to fully install your new system and then have it not work? Or more likely, it will work, but not to the extent that it should. When you install an HVAC system, it's more than just plugging it in and flipping on the switch. You have to make sure everything is properly mounted, and the air flow is going to work as well. If there are leaks in your system, or the ventilation isn't properly set up, the system will be far less effective, the energy bills will soar, and it could be dangerous to you and your family.

Why Airquip?

Warranty

A lot of these systems come with warranties but require maintenance and proper installation to validate the warranty. Installing a system yourself could void the warranty right away. Make sure you read the fine print before you install it yourself.

So, the reason someone might want to install an HVAC system on their own is to save money, right?  They might think that if they don’t have to pay a professional to install it, they’re saving money. Well, this isn't exactly the case. You may be saving a little bit up front when it comes to installation, but you have to remember that a lot of the cost of an HVAC system comes down to operation and repairs. We've mentioned this a bit already above, but it is important to reiterate.

When you have your system installed by a professional, you are ensuring that your system will run at max efficiency, saving you in energy bills. You will also ensure that it won't be breaking down soon or needing any repairs. If a system is not properly installed, you could be leaking air, and your system could be much more likely to breakdown and require repairs.

In the end, you can see there are many benefits that come along with having your new HVAC system installed professionally. When you go through the list, it really doesn't make sense to try and save a few bucks installing it yourself.
